Tips for a Successful Application
If appplicants are submitting Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores (which are optional but not required for admission) and either Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores (non-US residents only) as early as possible. For the narrative, applicants should focus primarily on professional and academic experiences, including research, student leadership, or co-curricular activities that develop a strength or had a significant impact on others.
Successful applicants typically have a Jr/Sr GPA greater than 3.3/4.0 and combined verbal and quantitative GRE Scores of 1150 (old system) / 308 (new system) or higher, with average quantitative metrics. Incoming classes exceed these values.
It is very helpful to be as specific as possible in declaring future interest in a general research area for thesis research. For guidance on what research areas are available at Penn State, please visit our IGDP Faculty Directry.
